Diamond Advice - Engagement Rings & Settings
First of all – CONGRATULATIONS on taking the step in getting engaged!!
Finding an engagement ring to suit your budget and your future fiancées' expectations may seem to be a difficult and stressful decision. This doesn’t have to be the case. You may even decide to choose your engagement ring together but familiarising yourself with the basic styles of ring available is a good place to start.
Engagement Rings come in a variety of styles and there are several designs to choose from when it is time to purchase your engagement ring. For example, Solitaire tiffany setting, Solitaire cathedral setting, Setting with baguette diamonds, Diamond trinity setting, Channel setting, Tension Setting and Rub Over Setting. These are some of the most basic designs available and below is some more information on each style so you can familiarise yourself with them before shopping. If you're not sure what to get, we strongly suggest a Solitaire in white gold. That is usually the most popular if you really are unsure on the best ring for her.

| |
Solitaire Tiffany Setting - Often the most popular due to it's simplicity and timeless appeal. This ring is a simple, plain band (usually between 1.5mm-3mm wide) with a claw setting in the centre. |
| |
| |
Solitaire Cathedral Setting - This ring is also popular. There is a band, very similar to the Solitaire Tiffany Setting. Either side of the diamond, the band splits into two. On the bottom it meets to join and create the inside band. On the top, it rises upwards to the diamond to give it an illusion of being set deeper into the ring. The slender rising of the ring on the sides is what gives it the Cathedral name. |

| |
Setting with Baguette Diamonds – This design is popular due to it's simplicity. The side diamonds create a frame for the centre diamond and really create a line of sparkle. |
| |
| |
Diamond Trilogy – De Beers commercials really made this style well known, this ring has become a popular anniversary ring due to it's "Past, Present and Future" sentiment. It is also a classic design for engagement rings as well. |

| |
Channel Setting - This is one of the most popular designs that use side diamonds. The channel set diamonds can be round, princess shape, or baguette. Channel setting gives the illusion that the diamonds are suspended and looks quite breathtaking if all the diamonds match well in size and quality. This style ‘marries’ the classic solitaire setting with the eternity ring. |
| |
| |
Tension Setting - This is a diamond with no ‘setting’ or basket around the stone but is actually set with the tension of the metal. This style is absolutely stunning as the diamond is just suspended in the ring and really shows the diamond off. To be considered are the risks of this setting. Although beautiful, this setting cannot take knocks quite as much as the other settings and should be aware if choosing for a more active fiancé. |
| |
| |
Rub Over Setting - This ring is popular for its contemporary look. The setting hides the edges of the diamond and is usually used for round and princess cut diamonds. |
